JCB Interiors has been serving Connecticut and New York for more than 25 years. Still, not everyone is familiar with our business. That's why in this blog post, we're providing an overview of JCB Interiors' services. We can help you out with everything from flooring to furniture!

We carry a wide array of flooring products for homes and businesses.

Carpeting from JCB Interiors is ideal for both residential and commercial properties. Have a tight budget? Not a problem. Our carpet prices start at just $0.88 per square foot. We also sell oriental rugs and finished area rugs.

JCB Interiors also offers hardwood flooring. With new advances in wood finishing technology, today's hardwood flooring is more durable and easy-to-maintain than ever before! Whether you're looking for solid hardwood or engineered hardwood, you'll find it with us.

Laminate flooring has become more popular in recent years, because it's "the great copycat." It can mimic wood or stone or ceramic for much less than the real thing. Laminate floors from JCB Interiors start at $1.19 per square foot.

Tile is another one of our specialties. JCB Interiors offers three types of tile flooring: ceramic, luxury vinyl and vinyl. Tile flooring is ideal for just about any space! Luxury vinyl tile is preferable for those on a strict budget. Vinyl tiles offer an alternative to ceramic tiles, giving the look of tile floors at a reduced price.

JCB Interiors can furnish your home, too! We carry furniture for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms. Get more information at our website.

The Carpet and Allergies Connection

In the springtime, carpets tend to collect dust, pollen and other allergens that can cause flare-ups in your symptoms. If you're fed up with itchy eyes and nasal congestion, you may want to educate yourself on the carpet and allergies connection.

"Carpets accumulate dust and dirt in the amount of approximately 5-25 grams per square meter of surface area, depending on type of material, foot traffic, and other factors, which is a far greater extent than hard flooring," reports the National Center for Healthy Housing. If you or someone in your family suffers from allergies, you'll want to limit wall-to-wall carpeting in your home for this reason.

A recent study from Woolcock Institute Of Medical Research found that it's also difficult to remove certain allergens from carpeting. "Allergen avoidance measures that rely solely on vacuum cleaning are likely to be of limited success unless more rigorous cleaning than standard home vacuuming is performed," said Woolcock Researcher Jason Sercombe.

Now that we're clear on the carpet and allergies connection, let's talk about alternatives. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America recommends using "hardwood, vinyl, linoleum tile, or slate instead of wall-to-wall carpeting." If you miss the warmth of a carpet beneath your feet, invest in small, washable area rugs.

To learn more about alternatives to carpeting, call JCB Interiors at (203) 327-0450. We offer hardwood floors, laminate, tile, vinyl and area rugs! Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ for more tips.

Fresh Flooring Ideas for Spring 2015

Spring is a time for rejuvenation and change. One of the most substantial updates you can make to your home is to install new floors.

Is it time to bring your floors up to date? Consider these fresh flooring ideas for spring 2015:

1. Striking floor tiles

"They are stunning and provide a great design opportunity," interior designer Jasmine McClelland told Forbes. This statement-making look is especially great for bathrooms.

2. Neutral color palate

JCB Interiors tile manufacturer Datile says gray, clay, taupe and soft blacks are hot colors for 2015. Use these colors with pastel blues and greens for a fresh spring look.

3. Engineered wood

Engineered hardwood flooring comes in an assortment of styles and colors. Homeowners are going for this look as opposed to solid hardwood and laminate. That's because it's not as vulnerable to water damage.

Allow JCB Interiors to help you freshen up your home this spring with new flooring. Get in touch with us by dialing (203) 327-0450 or visiting us online. Don't forget to connect with us on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ for more updates from JCB Interiors!

3 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Floors

Winter's just about over, and if you're like us, you're already forming your spring cleaning checklist. Spotless floors should be at the top of your list! To help you get there, here are three spring cleaning tips for your floors:

1. Vacuum and shampoo carpets

You should be vacuuming daily, but we understand that's not always a realistic. As for shampooing, your best bet is to call in a professional. However, if you're looking for a DIY (do-it-yourself) approach, check out this guide from Apartment Therapy. (As a bonus, it uses only natural ingredients!)

2. Sweep and vacuum hardwood floors

Avoid taking a dripping mop to your beautiful wood floors. "...[It] can cause the boards to expand and splinter," warn the cleaning experts of Molly Maid. A thorough sweep and vacuum should be sufficient. If a deeper clean is necessary, look for a professional cleaner made specifically for hardwood floors.

3. Clean stained grout

It can be challenging to get tile floors to look clean if the grout is stained. Better Homes and Gardens recommends tackling the problem with a strong bleach solution (3/4 cup of bleach and 1 gallon of water) and a toothbrush. It may take a while, but it'll be worth it when your tiles are sparkling!

If your floors can't be saved this spring, call JCB Interiors. We've been selling furniture and flooring for more than 35 years.

How Often Do Commercial Carpets Need to Be Cleaned?

According to the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), "With regular commercial carpet cleaning, office flooring can remain in excellent condition for many years." But just how often do commercial carpets need to be cleaned? We explain below.

Regular vacuuming should be done in order to remove dirt on the surface. This will prevent the soil from getting deep into the fibers while also extending the life of your carpet. However, it's important to give your commercial carpets a deeper clean occasionally as well.

What qualifies as a "deeper clean" varies based on the cleaning company you choose. IICRC-certified companies go to great lengths to get your commercial carpet clean. They carry a wide range of top-of-the-line tools to get the job done!

Generally speaking, commercial carpets need to be cleaned every four to six months. This will ensure that dirt, salt, oil, sand and chemicals do not dull your carpet's appearance!

In the market for a new commercial carpet? JCB Interiors covers it all -- from the boardroom to the break room. Plus, prices start at just 88 cents per square foot! Contact us today at (203) 237-0450. Get more tips by connecting with us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

How Luxury Vinyl Flooring Has Evolved

"Today's vinyl is not your grandmother's flooring," say the experts of HGTV. And we at JCB Interiors must agree. Thanks to improvements in printing and embossing, luxury vinyl flooring has evolved into an authentic-looking, affordable alternative to wood and other costly flooring options.

Vinyl has come quite a long way in the last 10 years or so. It's no longer looked at as simply a "standard flooring." Rather, today, vinyl is durable, good-looking and even luxurious!

Some of the benefits of luxury vinyl flooring include:

  • Protection against bacteria, mold and mildew
  • Easy maintenance
  • Eco-friendlier
  • Durable, ideal for high-traffic areas
  • Quiet
  • Available in an array of colors and designs

In the past, vinyl couldn't be made with the amount of depth and texture it has today. As you can see, it's come a long way! Whether you're looking to update your kitchen floor or would like to renovate your entryway, we certainly recommend considering luxury vinyl flooring.

JCB Interiors offers luxury vinyl from the following manufacturers:

  • Shaw
  • Mohawk
  • Earth Werks
  • Link Werks
  • Burke
